St Lucia South AfricaGuest HousesBed & Breakfast Facilities |
The
concept of home owners sharing the abode with the weary traveler is as
old as biblical times. St. Lucia and the Greater St. Lucia
Wetland Park area is no exception to this trend. The concept of
residing in a guest house appeals to many tourists as they have the
added advantage of increased privacy compared to larger establishments
and as the owner or management are usually residing on the premises,
increased and personalised service standards are to be expected.
The
guest house trade in St. Lucia and the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park
area is predominantly catering for the foreign tourism market niche as
these tourists are not overly partial to the concept of self-catering
flat rental units whilst on holiday on the one hand and on the other
hand the lack of abundant hotel accommodation, has created and
developed this specialized service accommodation market.

The majority of guest houses in St. Lucia and the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park area are affiliated to local associations and/or the national regulating and grading authorities for this trade in order to ensure an acceptable standard. Tourists must however realize that as the owner is normally resident on the premises the specific B&B or Guest House will usually have a traditional ambiance according to either the nationality or parental heritage of such individual. Cooking methods, decor, pets, gardens, and conversational activities etc. are usually the criteria in this regard. |
