The Eastern Shores consists of a land strip between the lake and the Indian Ocean.  Topographical features vary from sandy beach, vegetated high dunes, coastal forest, grassy plain, flood marshes and indigenous forest to lake-side swamp with Mangrove forests.  The canopy of the coastal forest is the playground for Samango--and Vervet monkeys, whilst the dense undergrowth is criss-crossed with foot-paths of bush pig, Red Duiker and Bush Buck.
