St.
Lucia and the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park area is the ideal venue
for the ardent "outdoors" camping and caravaning enthusiast with the vast number of camping and
caravan sites available. These facilities originated from the
domestic tourism market and should therefore not be seen as equivalent
in standard to such facilities in Europe or the U.S.A. Over the
past decade, standards of these facilities have increased to the extent
that they offer a basic to better, with an element of
"ruffing-it-a-little" standard to the tourist.
As
the development of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park area was in the
past largely orchestrated by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife [ former Natal Parks
Board ] and presently by the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park Authority,
most of the caravan and camping facilities resort within the
jurisdiction of these organizations and are thus administrated by such.
